Spirituality in Astrology
Inhale and exhale air we call Breathing i.e. inhale means getting the oxygen and exhale means getting out of carbon dioxide. Air is inhaled when the muscular wall called the diaphragm and the intercostals muscles between the ribs, enlarge the chest cavity by expanding outwards. This expansion creates a slight vacuum in the lungs and air is sucked in to fill it. Under normal condition, inhale and exhale makes the breathing quiet, all this takes between 4 to 6 seconds. Generally, breathing is an automatic process that goes on at the rate of 10 to 15 breaths every minute without our having to pay conscious attention to it.
Breathing, however, is not always automatic and unlike the process of digestion and heartbeats, we can override the respiratory enter in the brain and hold our breath. Emotional strain can increase the rate of respiration, while emotional joy makes breathing deep and calm. So the intimate relationship between respiration and the changing emotional states of mind controls respiration and change emotions and the state of consciousness.
If deep and fast breathing for a long period results in too quick a loss of carbon dioxide and leads muscle rigidity, stupor and cataleptic coma in otherwise increasing the carbon dioxide and decreasing the oxygen contents result in anoxia, a feeling of lightheadedness and a trance like state in which a person occasionally has mystical experiences. Changing of oxygen and carbon dioxide ratio in the blood influences the thought process, i.e. the normal rate of respiration is related to bodily activity and emotion state of the person. Physical exercises, sexual aroused and violent emotions such as anxiety, fear and anger increase the rate of the breathing. A peaceful mind and emotional calmness slows down the respiratory rate, even below the normal level. Even among animals, those excited breath more quickly than those that are placid by nature as hare takes 55 breath per minutes, monkey 30 breath per minutes, cat 24 times, dog 15-18 times , horse 8-12 times and a tortoise 3 to 4 times only. If the emotional states can 30 times effects the rate of breathing then an alteration in the rate of respiration should affect the individual’s emotional state. Only Yoga can reduce breathing to the absolute minimum, thereby arresting totally the discursive and emotional functions of the mind.
Another method called breath and sound i.e. it is not a method of breath control but a way of using normal respiration to harmonize the force of life with pattern breathing. We normally breathe freely through only one nostril to another alternatively about 90 minutes the quality of breathing left and right are cool, smoothing passive and feminine and warm, energizing active and masculine respectively, the breath from the left and right nostrils is due to the movements of the celestial bodies .As the moon moves through the signs of the zodiac so the breath moves from the moon left nostril to the sun right nostril. An individual’s zodiac sign determines which breath is beneficial on which day. It can be understand that the air currents passing through the right nostril influence excitatory effects while the left nostril produce inhibitory effects.
If one is successful in gaining control over the change of breath from one nostril to the other nostril which can bring about the change at will without resorting to any physical method, then one is said to be freed from destiny, or tossing and turning that we do at night in sleep is nature’s way of maintaining balance of the two forces in the human body. To understand the ancient system of the harmony of breath one must first comprehend the basic concept on which this system is based, there are three basic qualities of the universe these qualities are luminosity, existence and goodness i.e. Sattva activity, movement, motor energy i.e. Rajask and sloth static inertia, darkness is Tamps. There should be perfect and homogenous balance with in the Prakriti or nature. Now in time (KALA) the proximity of the Purusha to the Prakriti upsets the perfect primordial equilibrium and the process of evolution was set in motion. From the transformations that took place within the Prakriti principle i.e. Budhi, the essence of intellect and the foundation of all function, was born. Drawn by the force of evolution, Prakriti was transformed from the state of Budhi to that of Ahankar the sense of I-ness and the basic motion of individual existence i.e. ego Ahankar’s evolution proceeded in two directions i.e. ego Ahankar’s evolution proceeded in two directions i.e. objective or external world and the subjective or psycho mental world. The directions that Ahankar took depended upon which of the three gunas or quality predominated. When sattav of luminosity predominates the person’s mind the five. Jyana Indris or five sense organs i.e. ears, eyes, tongue, nose or skin perceptions i.e. the five senses hearing, seeing, tasting, smelling and feeling are evolved. When Rajsik or activating moments, dominate the organs of action i.e. mouth, hands, legs, bowels and genitals may act which means speaking, grasping, walking, excreting and sex. When Tamas or inertia predominates then the five potential elements i.e. sound, touch, form, flavors and odour are evolved, Panch Maha Bhotas means space, air five water and earth then five elements make up the physical world. But the elements never exist in the pure state. Actually every element has 50% of its own and other 505 remaining 12.1/4 each. All material is visible form of the five gross elements and has a similar composition.
After a set period of times, the microcosm/macrocosm dissolves in a reverse order until the primordial state of equilibrium of the three qualities in nature in nature is reached. This is said to be the end of one cosmic cycle. This process is repeated again and again for indefinite number of times.
The 2nd basic concept is that of the vital energy of air. The life of energy living being depends upon the air i.e. breathing in and out. Similarly the subtle body depends on the vital energy of PRANA, which circulates throughout the body and flows in and out along with physical breath PRANA energy also needs to be constantly replenished from the universal energy that pervades the cosmos.
3rd basic concept is SVAROAYA, which means to exhale and makes the sound HAM and the inhaling sound makes the sound SAM. The two sounds together make the word HAMSAH.
The ham sound symbolizes the male creative consciousness and is known as seed Mantra the SAH sound represents the female creative principle energy i.e. in mythology Siva and Parvity. Hams when reversed, spells soham which means (aham-1) and Sah-that) is SOHAM. I f takes away the consonants from this word then left is the word Om the greatest of all mantras and this sacred mantras cover the entire range of articulate sound and is the symbol of the cosmic order as understood by the man’s mind. Soham sound is a natural method, and one is aware of the two sounds made by the in and out acts of respiration. The sound is always with one and remains constant during all states of consciousness, waking, roaming and deep sleep. If an awareness of the Soham sound can be kept going through the three states of consciousness, then the individual reaches the fourth state of consciousness, then the individual reaches the fourth state called the final State called the final state of enlightenment.
Sahaja State: When the Soham sound becomes continuous and the soham is not broken or until the awareness of the sound becomes natural and spontaneous, when this happens one might feel that the breath has stopped. But there is no need to worry, as this is a sign to show that the practice has now become natural called Saharaja state. As the normal rate of respiration in human being is about 15 breath, per minute, so in 24 hours breaths would be 21,600.That is the reason if the breath is controlled the vital energy can be preserved and life can be prolonged, in the same way if vital energy can be altered and a deep insight in to the past and the future can be gained.
Nadis or pathways are subtle and invisible vessels through which the vital energy of PRANA circulates all over the body and they have a psychic, not a physical, in reality there are 7200 subtle channels from the base of the spinal cord at the pelvic plexus, which spread throughout the body like veins. Out of which 24 are principal Nadis among which 10 supply the parts of the body above the navel.10 feed parts below the navel.2 Nadi branch each side of the body.
Out of 24 principal channels 10 which are most important are: (i) Ida (ii) Pingla (iii) Sushumna (iv) Gandhari (v) Hastijihva (vi) Alambusha (ix) Kuhu (x) Shankhini each covers a special part of the body.
Ida: left nostril, Pingla: right nostril, Sushumuna: Brahma randhra, Gandhari: end of left eye, hastijihva: right eye Pusha: in right ear, Yeshasvinia: left ear Alambusha: mouth, Kuhu: genitals, Shankhini: in the anus.
There are 10 currents of the vital energy of PRANA that circulate through the body out which five belong to the inner body as (1) prana (2) apana (3) samana (4) udana (5) vyuna, collectively called panch-pranas.
Prana is in heart apuna in anus, samana in navel region, udana in throat, vyana in the whole body. Prana element fire i.e. sense of sight, apan to the earth sense of smell, seaman to the water, sense of taste, udana to the air sense of touch, vyana in the space and the sense of hearing the vital energy of udana is the vehicle of the soul and is said to guide it from one body to another after death.
There are 5 vital energies for the outer body as under :
(1) Naga (2) Kurma (3) Krikala (4) Devadatta (5) Dhananjaya.
Naga - It is vomiting bleaching and rise to give awareness.
Kurma - It is vision and opening and closing of the eyelids.
Krikala - It is source of hunger and thirst, flow of gastric juices or for sneezing.
Devadatta – It is yawning.
Dhananjaya - It is distribution of nourishment to the subtle body and pervades the entire body for a long time after death. The most important nadis are as:
Ida: It is called moon or Shakti channel and situated on the left side of the body rule of all the left side of nadis.
Pingala: It is called sun channel and the symbol of the right side of the nadis. Left side of the divisions of the subtle body and the nature of the psychic nadis has its all the parallels in modern scientific physiology of the brain. The human brain is divided in two hemispheres, joined by a large bundle of fibers known as the corpus caliosum. The left side of the body is controlled mainly by the right side of the cortex and the right side of the body by the left cortex. The left hemisphere is predominantly involved in analytical and logical thinking, verbal skills, writing and speech and complex, mathematical calculations. The right hemisphere is concerned with synthesis artistic and musical abilities, body image, and recognitions of faces, nonverbal ideas, creativity and holistic thinking. Generally right-left has specializations and is most prevalent in right handed men, but slightly different in women and left-handers.
3rd important Nadi Sushumna is of the subtle body; it joins the centre of the skull to the pelvic plexus and is known as the meru-danda, the axis of the human body. It represents, the perfect balance between the two polarities of right and lift i.e. sun and moon, Purusha and prakriti i.e. consciousness and energy. There is a hidden and extra subtle pathway in-side the sushumuna called vajrani which runs the entire length of the nadi with in .The vijrani is another subtle pathway known as the chitrani through which runs the shining pathway known as the chitrani through which runs the shining ‘Brahma Nadi’ the cause of yogic samadhi and enlightenment. Both nadis i.e. Brahma and Chitrani are beautiful like a chain of lightning and fine like lotus fibers and shine in the minds of a person, subtle contain pure knowledge, the embodiment of bliss and pure consciousness, the brain power, entrance to the region of ambrosial shines in her mouth.
As physical body needs to be cleaned and exercised to keep healthy, so the subtle body or specially the channels need to be cleared frequently. The cleaning of channels is called ‘ nadis’ shodhan and can be done physically or mentally.
The physical method includes six yogic Kriyas that are :
(1) Kapalbhati : Stimulating the brain with abdominal and diaphragmatic breathing.
(2) Neti : Clearing the air passage with water, cotton, and milk.
(3) Dhaut :Cleaning the intestinal tracts.
(4) Nauli :Isolation and rolling manipulation of the abdominal recti muscles.
(5) Trataka :Gazing at a fixed point generally at bright objects to clean the eye Channels.
(6)Bhastrika :Rapid breathing or hyperventilation.
The cleaning by mental method has ways. But common methods are
(1) Mantra
(2) Meditation
(3) Breath control
Example: First sit in Padmasana and meditate the mantra of air in YAM, inhale through the left nostril repeating the mantra yam six times, retain the breath the repeating yam 24 times. After inhale through the right nostril repeat the fire mantra RAM. Retain the breath repeating the mantra 24 times and then exhale with the mantra repeating 12 times. Keep the graze fixed on the tip of the nose all the times. It should be done 10 rounds initially increasing it gradually.
Sushumna the central nadi has six base chakra which can only be seen by introspection (1) between the anus and the genitals means base of spine called lowest end ness (Mula Dhar) has four petals red lotus with a yellow square in the earth. Four letters are va, sha, sha, and sa generally found in female genitilia inside which is set a linga, coiled around the opening of the linga lies the dormant spiritual power called kundalini, coiled energy represented visually as a serpant. It is another form of cosmic energy of prakriti that animates all life it is also the power of all psychological drives and motivations and the foundation of all emotions. Kundalini is composed of three potential qualities
(1) Will.
(2) Knowledge.
(3) Action. Being Moola Dhar near the end of the elementary canal represents person’s fundamental concern with digestion and excretion. Near the genitals lies 2nd subtle chakra known as Svadhishthana i.e. seat of the self. This has six petals known as ba, bha, ma, ya, ra, la. It is the most important chakra drive after food, that of sexual gratification and reproduction.
At the level of the navel Jewel city or Manpur Chara has 10 petals are da, dha, na, ta, tha, da, dha, na, pa and pha. This chakra is the seat of the vital energy called samane and represents the solar plexus.
Being the seat of Samana, the Manipura Chakra is also the centre for the energy of ego. People who rise above the two basic animal concerns of food and sex usually stop at the ego centre. People who want all type of prosperity concentrate their entire in the centre.
In the region of the heart vibration less chakra or cardiac plexus acts as the house of the vital energy prane. This chakra has 12 petals ka, kha, ga, gha, na, cha, chha, ja, jha, na, ta and tha. Just above the anahata is a minor chakra called manas chakra. It is the first centre from the basic physical energy of a person and changes into spiritual energy. It is the center of KARUNA and PREM and blooms only after a person is mature enough to rise above the usual physical and ego drives. It is also called the soul. Only when the energy becomes concentrated here does one hear the inner anahat or non-vibratory sound. This is the aim of Soham sadhna.
In the throat is a Vishuddhu or pure chakra or cervical plexus, has sixteen petals a, aa, i, ii, u, uu, ri, rii, lri, brii, ai, o, au, an, and ha the seat of the vital energy called Udana. Here all the basic psychological concerns are abandoned and the vital energy becomes purified.
Between vishudha chakra and the higher ajna is a secret chakra called the lalana or taluchakra, which has 64 petals. At the spot/point of the 3rd eye between eyebrows, is the Ajna Chakra, which has 2 petals ha and ksha. These stands for animal energy transformed in the spirit of powers.
Little beyond the ajna chakra in the manas mind centre or chakra where lies within chitrani nadi that runs through Sushuma nadi the dot or Bindo that is part of the Omkara at the centre of the ajna. The manas chakra has six petals one each for the five senses i.e. smell-earth, taste-water, form-fire, touch-air, and space–atmosphere and sixth one for sleep as colour of earth is yellow, water-white, fire-red, air-gray, space-white, and sleep-black, for it is the seat of consciousness where all modifications of mind are absorbed.
Above the manas chakra sahasrara padma chakra this is the centre of bliss, the experience of utter joy the petals of the Sanskrit language within all the possible sounds is 50*20 and this is 2nd of kundaini path.
In the ajana centre the polarities appeared as sexuality, neither a complete male nor a complete female, it means that at the time of opening of eyes wisdom in the ajana centre, sexuality of male is entirely transformed into spiritual energy, but beyond the ajana chakra when the final bliss comes with the opening of the thousands petals this sexuality may re-establish itself. So in the ajana chakra they lose their definite sexual nature and may become sexuality and are shown in sexual union.
If we compare the human body, to the cosmic body, is universe that which is planets, stars, space and galaxies. The chakra just described can be called levels of existence of world or lokes.
World of material bodies and physical forces governed by natural laws is called Jadaloak and this represent the Moola Dhar chakra.
The 2nd is the realm of life and vital energies under the rule of biological laws is prane-locka compared with svadhisthana centre.
The world of mental forces that transcends matter and life, governed by subtle mental laws is the manipura chakra. World is the realm of this intellect the Budhi-loka.The realm rule, the mind and compared anahate chakra. The realm of consciousness is high and more subtle that the intellect known as Dharma-loka.Its world comparable to the vishuddha chakra.
Above the Dharma-loka is the world of pure divine beauty that is called Rase-loka compared with ajana chakra of wisdom.
The highest world is the Ananda–loka of pure in the human body. By the techniques yogic can be awakened the dormant power of kundalini which lies at the base of the spine that we call neuro-muscular locks. When Kundalini is awakened, it rises through the six chakra of the subtle body and ends in the sahasrara to give absolute bliss and the spiritual aspiration.
There are three neuro-muscular locks as – udiyana or flying Bandha, first of all exhaling all the air from the lungs through the mouth. Then, the chest is expanded and the abdominal muscles are sucked in so that they almost touch the backbone.
Jalandhara or glottis Bandha-First inhale through the nose and then contract the throat so as to stop the air from going further. Press the chin firmly on the chest at the jugular notch.
Mula or anus Bandha-Site in Padmasana presses the left heel against the premium. Hold the right heel above the genital region and contract the anus. For awakening the kundalini there are so many mudras or postures, which produce somatic electrochemical forces to awaken the kundalini that we call rhythmical. The subtle of physical body two important nadis are Ida and pingla.
Ida end in the left nostril and pingla ends in right nostril physical breath with vital energy flows in and out through their nadis in respective nostril. All the breath through one nostril in one time is one and half-hours approximately. Vital energy or vital breath is PAAN plus physical breath called savar and moment of this savar is called nadi or rise so the change of the vital breathes savar nadai sastra. This vital breath or savar udaya from right nostril is called sun or suryaudaya which is warm and excitable, while from the left nostril is called moon or chander savar, which is cool and peaceful the savar change from one nostril to other is called savar samkarnti. When both the nostril open up then that is a rare phenomenon called equal time. When nostril open called full, in closed nostril called empty, out going breath is called without attributes and in coming breath is called with attributes.
The svarodaya shastra can predict the future course of events on earth and also can prevent and cure diseases; both physical as well as mental and can also influence the work of nature. The vital breath of the left nostril considered colour so the days associated with moon Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and the right is considered as warm on Sunday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Being the vital breath flows through one nostril for about one and a hour. But the quality, intensity and power of the vital breath do not remain the same throughout. These are five subtle as earth, water, fire, air and space and the change are traditionally correlated to these five elements of everyday. There are of course not the material elements of everyday life, but states of subtle matters that affect the physical emotional and psychic processes of the human body. For identification of the five element of the vital breath are nature of the breath, times of flow, type of breath, manner of flow, length of flow, colour of breath, geometrical shape taste, experience of seed mantra and physical manifestation can be determined as:
Earth Elements: The breath if earth element is slow slightly warm, make a deep sound, has a central flow which seems to stem from the chin and last for about 20 minutes, and the length of flow would be 12 fingers or angulas, square, water crescent, sweet taste, yellow and golden square colour. Center of nostril indicate reality as solid matter is in the Muladhar center.
Water Elements: The breath of water element would flow very, make a very loud sound, cold to the touch and last for about 16 minutes and the length is 16 fingers. Astringent taste, white crescent colour. Downward. Indicate reality in the fluid side is in the svadhishthana chakra.
Fire Elements: The breath of fire elements is very hot and last for 12 minutes and the breath is 4 fingers. Triangle. Pungent taste , red triangle. The all senses of the time transcends in Manipura Chakra.
Air Elements: The breath of air elements can be hot or cold and last for 8 minutes and the length is 8 fingers, and is a circle. Sour taste and green circle colour. Side of the nostril. Indicates reality of sound without vibration and is in anahata chakra.
Space Elements: The space element would have combination of all of four elements and last for 4 minutes and length is 20 fingers. It is a point. Bitter taste, multi coloured and dots. Equal force all over. Indicates consciousness and reaches the level of the ajna chakra and also awareness of infinity in the sahasrara charka.
1st chakra, ruled by earth element, gives the ability to make the body as light as air for astral travel, and shines with a golden aura.
2nd chakra, ruled by water, gives the power to live for a long period without food, water, and makes the body shine with a silver aura.
3rd chakra, ruled by the fire element, gives the power and ability to eat huge amounts of food without bad effects to endure strong heat and to make the body shine with a red aura.
4th chakra, ruled by the fire element, gives the power to fly like birds and to understand their languages.
5th chakra, ruled by space, gives the capacity to look in to, beyond ability to shrink to the size of an atom and absolute power to increase in size according to desire, the power to control all objects animate and inanimate, and ability to create matter through the power of thought.
Atomization enables the person to become infinitely small in order to understand the inner nature of atoms and molecules that form the building blocks of this universe. This power can be gained by opposite deep meditation on the heart centre. Mahima is just the opposite and allows the siddha to become vast so as to be able to see the cosmic structure of stars and galaxies, and penetrate beyond space and time to experience the ultimate reality. This power can be gained by meditating on the primeval state of nature or Prakriti Garima is the capacity to acquire enormous weight, which leads to permanence and stability. Meditation only air element can give the power of laghima. That is the power to become light, live the body at will and do astral projection. Space element can give power to compel others to obey one’s wishes. Meditation of only space element has powers and ability to hypnotize others, creative powers of the universe to control animate nature and influence the behavior of the person and animals, secondary the nature of the persons to stop the wind, rain, stones, fish and animals.
Kamayashayitvam: Can be gained by meditation of the creative power of the universe of the person can be full of all desires. The power can be attained by meditating on the principle of primeval ego and is quite common. These are the energies of the human mind and the energy of vision, of will and of action.
For complete control over the nervous system, the subtle body and the various states of consciousness has neither the will nor the need to use any of his magical powers. All such people really desire to be united forever with the Supreme Reality, because the breath elements of the earth and water are considered to be harmful. Subtle forces also influence the human destiny when we undertake any activity; we find that no matter how hard we try we are not always rewarded with success. Many physical forces that work on our environment, there are also many hidden forces we call subtle forces. The subtle hidden forces are not always beyond discovery. This we all occult knowledge or breath .The moods of human beings change very frequently. Sometimes we are happy and cheerful while another time we feel angry and depressed this changing moods does not depend upon outside stimulus but depends upon flow of vital breath and its five elements have a strong influence on our temperament. Otherwise how could sudden period of depression is followed by equally sudden period of cheerfulness, without any apparent reason, be explained .So it stands to reason that if we can understand and control the movement of the vital breath we can understand and control the movement of the vital breath we can command and modify our moods and indirectly influence our environment. So, all the auspiciousness activities aimed at obtaining permanent and stable effects should be undertaken when the vital breath flowing through the left channel i.e. moon nostril care should be taken to start the propitious action within the 36 minutes of flow of the vital breath.
It goes without saying that control over the vital breath of the five elements gives full control over the physical manifestations. The breath of five elements should flow in the regular manner. Any long-term irregularity can cause diseases. The corresponding element as
The subtle of human body the water element rules the feet, earth element rules the knees, air element rules the groins, and fire element rules the chest and shoulders, and space element hands.
The vital breath also has a very profound effect upon the mind. The rising of earth element is columns and peace that cannot be disturbed by the most serious problems, rising the water element breath the mind become filled with joy and compassion and there is tremendous inner need to help others. Rising of fire element bring with in anger, mental turmoil, violence, pride, and terror. If the breath of air rising out of the mind becomes disturbed and rest less like wind. When space element rise mind becomes calming effect out the mind and arises an inner need to meditate and this is the hard time for spiritual discipline.
Left channel is ida by earth influenced and ruled by mercury, water by moon, fire by Jupiter, right channel is pingla nadi, influenced by earth and ruled by sun, water by Saturn, fire by mars, air by moon and space by Jupiter.
Tatwas or elements constitute the universe and are an integral part of our life. Astrogically the Sun and Mars represent Teja (Fire) or energy, the Moon and the Venus have Water or Jal (taste), Mercury represent Earth or Prithvi (smell), Jupiter Akash (sound) and Saturn has Air or Vayu (touch and sound). These Tatwas work and influence every moment of human life and they keep on changing in rotation in every 90 minutes. The effect of the tatwa Prithvi is for 06 min., Jal for 12 mins, Teja for 18 mins, Vayu 24 mins and Akash 30 mins thus constituting a cycle of 90 minutes .
The Tatwa representing the lord of the day begins the cycle after the sunrise and then others follow it in rotation thereby affecting the native according to their characteristics.
This process beginning at the sunrise (Prabhat Vela) continues till the lord of the day is Jupiter, the tatwa initiating the day would be Akash i.e. Sound followed by Prithvi i.e.; smell and so on. It is, therefore observed that on a Thursday, during the first 30 min., Prabhat Vela; most of the natives experience an urge of music, bhajan-kirtan etc.
Person should examine his breath daily before sunrise to see which of the nerves Ida, Pingala or Sushumna is functioning and which of the elements; earth, water, fire, air or ether is in evidence. On the basis of these, he will not only get his good and bad results but also have the queries too such as regaining of lost articles etc.
If breath is running from the left nostril on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday or if it running from the right nostril on Tuesday, Sunday or Saturday, it is conducive to the well being of persons. Breath running from the right nostril on days belonging to the natural benefic planets and that running from the left one on days belonging to natural malefic planets is not conducive to people’s well being.
If breath is conducive on maleficent and beneficial days, the querist keeps good health, earns wealth, gets good food and gets good results. If the breath is not conducive i.e. if right nostril is active on days of beneficial planets and left one is active on days of malefic planets, the querist gets failure in his object, does not get good food, does not get good income, there are quarrels, loss of comfort, sleep and trouble in passing faces. If breath is not of the correct nostril on Sundays one gets pain in the body, on Mondays, it leads to quarrel, on Tuesdays it may bring about death, on Wednesdays there is travel to a distant place, on Thursday trouble from official sources, on Saturdays there is loss of power and of lands and involvement in quarrels.
If breath runs through the left nostril continuously for 8 days beginning from a Sunday it brings about the death of the preceptor or bodily disease. If breath runs through the nostril On the right side for 8 days, consecutively beginning from Tuesday one gets into the hands of the enemy. Similar bad running of right nostril on Wednesdays onward one gets death of one of the relatives, i.e. mercury is the significator of relatives other than real ones. If from Thursdays onwards the right nostril is active constantly for 8 days beginning from Friday one loses wealth due to litigation of property. If left nostril works consecutively for 8 days beginning from Saturday one loses wife or land.
Which of the elements is having its sway at a particular time should be known from the measure of the range of the outgoing breath. The range of earth element is 16 anguls. The range of water element is 12 anguls that of fire is 8 anguls, of air it is 6 anguls and of ether it is 3 anguls.
In bright half of the moon’s fortnight in blood tithi, when the breath is from the left nostril and its sway or length represents the element earth, the querist gets multistory building and high class house, ruling powers other desirable results as well as construction well, getting married etc. This is all the result of the activity of the left nostril .If sway under the above conditions is of the left nostril, one gets danger from water.
If the sway is of the element ‘fire’, there is danger from water, wound in body through weapons, the burning up or falling down of the house, fire accidents to infants. To mitigate the evil one should worship God.
If the sway is of the element ‘Air’, one has to run away leaving his residence, gets the theft, and has occasion to ride on an elephant or horse etc.
If the sway is of the element ‘Ether’ one gets instructions in mantras, yantras and tantras, has good income, and attends to the establishment of a temple. In case the breath is from the right nostril one gets chronic trouble and pain in the body.
In case both the nostrils are active, one gets the results relating to all the 5 elements. If the breath is strong and long it indicates good results. If it is weak and short it gives bad results.
If the sway is of the element ‘Earth’ and the question relates to some lost article, the article will be found buried in the ground. If the sway is of ‘Water’ element it will be in or near water. If the sway is of the element ‘Ether’ it would be on a high place and if the sway were of the element ‘ Fire’ then the article would be lying in the back portion of the building.
If in the directions of ‘Air’ earth or water, determined from the position of the astrologer, the questioner occupies his seat, this location indicates long life, good qualities, possession of wife or husband and sons, increase of health. If the querist occupies a seat in other directions it would give the opposite results.
Ida nerve on the left belongs to moon while Pingla on the right belongs to the sun. The Sushumna nerve in the middle relates to the element fire. The breath called ‘Ida’ is conducive to ‘out going’ while ‘Pingla’ is conducive to ‘incoming’ i.e. entry into a house or a city by bride etc. In spiritual matters the activity of Sushumuna is considered useful, but not in matters of material.
If a male patient or his agent occupies a seat to the right of the astrologer and puts the question and the astrologer is running the breath through the right nostril, the patient recovers and lives long. If the question relates to a woman patient and the questioner sits on the left of the astrologer, whose left nostril is active at the time, the result is the recovery of woman and attains a long life.
If the left breath is on and the querist sits on the right side of the astrologer or conversely, if the right breath of the astrologer is on and the querist sits on the left side of the astrologer then the disease is removed with much difficulty. If the question relating to disease is put at the moment when the astrologer is inhaling, it is good and well for the recovery and long life of the patient. If the astrologer is exhaling through the inhaling nostril at the moment, the patient does not recover and dies.
If the patient sits on the right side and the breath also is running in the right nostril or if the patient sits on the left side of the astrologer whose breath is also running through the left nostril, the patient recovers from the disease.
