Planetary Influences
In Hindu religion and mythology, the nine planets occupy an important role. The planet deities are referred to as the NAVAGRAHA and are suppose to have a significant impact on the lives of individual and therefore a Hindu adorns these planets as deities, so that they may bring peace and harmony in their life and to avert any mishap. NAVA means nine. GRAHA means planet. Graha literally means to grab. They are probably called so because they cause eclipses by grabbing the Sun and other stars.
Nine Planets and it’s Affect On Human Being
SURYA-The Sun
SOMA-The Moon
MANGAL-The Mars
BUDHA-The Mercury
BRIHASPATI-The Jupiter
SUKRA-The Venus
SHANI-The Saturn
RAHU-The Dragon’s Head
KETU-The dragon’s Tail
This is universally acknowledged fact that our life is significantly influenced by nature. In this brief presentation, the endeavor is to explain how planets bear effect upon human beings. The lords and the relations between the planets and the human being are real and commence before a human being gain his conciousness .You will realize that it is not possible to cover the entire subject in one lecture .I will today deal with those aspects which come into play before conception of a child, during pregnancy and at delivery.
There are four main constituents of a horoscope namely Planets, Signs, Constellations and Significators. Planets are the most important amongst these four for example; the sign ‘Leo’ denotes house of the sun, Constellation of Bharni, denotes the Constellation of Venus and brings results according to the characteristics of sun and Venus respectively. Significators of houses are also planets. Hence they give results according to the planets positioned in them. Thus Planets determine a native’s happiness, joy, wealth as well as loss of wealth, distress, problems, accident, diseases etc.
The sun being the source of energy (heat and light) controls human stomach (digestion) and Vision and the Moon, which receives light from the Sun also, does the same (Mental equilibrium). The Hindu mythology, advises us not to have food during eclipse of Sun. The Sun is considered as God and his eclipse means that he is being adversely affected. Scientifically (Astrologically) also, we know that during eclipse metabolic rays coming from the Sun are obstructed and negatively affect human digestive system. Due to the same reason, during rainy/cloudy season, people normally suffer from indigestion and other stomach disorders like cholera etc.
The Moon has a close relation with female fertility and their ability to conceive. The Moon remains in a sign for approx 2.1/2 days and comes in contact with Mars after 28 days. If the Moon traverses through the 3,6,10 or 11th house from the ascendant and comes in contact with Mars, it leads to the start of menstrual process in the females, menstrual cycle period (i.e. from 11-12th year to the 43rd year of age approx.). The Moon and Mars have water and fire respectively (i.e. blood and bile) and thus are the causes of menses when they come into association. Five days after the menses, when the Moon comes in Anupachhya houses i.e.: 2, 4, 5,6,8,9 or 12, a female can conceive. This concept is not applicable to children, old woman, and barren and after the cessation of menstrual cycle in females. Aries and Scorpio, the signs of Mars represent Pituitary Glands and Ovum respectively and if the Moon is in 3,7,10 or fifth house, a women will not conceive. Apart from the menses, the Moon also controls Uterus, Ovary and Fallopian Tubes i.e.; the complete female genital system. Hence it is the reason that majority of children are born during Moon or new Moon. A few births take place in period between new Moon and full Moon. Therefore, in a female horoscope, if the Moon is weak or debilitated in any manner, e.g. eclipse and hemmed between to malefic, she will have problems in conception of children and also during delivery. If the Moon is afflicted due to Mars, birth of children is very difficult and use of operative instrument is essentially required.
Also if the horoscope of a child has a very weak Moon and main and sub period operate of Moon, then he/she will have a short life.
During the conception of a child, a particular planet influences every month of growth of foetus. The first month is controlled by Venus, second by Mars, third by Jupiter, fourth and fifth by the Sun and the Moon respectively, sixth by Saturn, seventh by Mercury, eighth by Earth, ninth by the Ascendant. In case a child remains in mother’s womb for more than nine months, the Moon and the eleventh by the Sun, eclipsed or weak position of these planets govern the tenth month. Consequently the planets affect the whole life of the native. During the growth of foetus, if the planet governing a particular month is afflicted, malefic tendencies of the same remain in the native throughout his life, and are more effective during the main and sub periods of the lord. Suppose, the Sun is strong during the fourth month and also at the time of birth, the native would be pious soul, have strong bones and powerful eye sight, kingly status, dark red complexion determined; bitter taste, bile humours, and satwic and would earn from East direction, belong to warrior class. He would like to wear thick and heavy clothes have an upward glance and win over enemies by exerting punishment. Similarly if the Sun is afflicted, all of the above qualities would not apply and the native will be affected adversely.
If the Moon is strong in the fifth month and also at the time of birth, the native would be emotional, (heart), fleshy, of balanced blood pressure very fair complexion, fickle minded, salty taste, windy and phlegm humours, satwic nature, glance square front, and win over by temptation. If the same Moon is eclipsed or weak in any manner all the above qualities become demerits of the native.
In the similar manner remaining planets also influence natives, depending upon their strong or afflicted positions during their governing months and also at the time of birth.
The Sun being source of energy to the Universe is also called the soul. It provides energy by sending different rays, which are seven in number and bear special characteristics. These rays attribute different temperamental levels and qualities. Every individual progresses as per his/her individual ray, which penetrates him most deeply and has very deep implications on his life. In the initial phases of growth of foetus, the effect of these rays is not very significant and increases proportionately with the growth of child inside mother’s womb.
The first ray is known as the ray of Sun (Sushumuna), determines the status of native .If the penetration of this ray is deeper on a native, he would have a kingly status the ray of Moon (Hariesh) and determines the level of wisdom the native will have in his life. The third ray known as the ray of the Mercury (Visvakaran) influences the intellect of the native. The fourth ray i.e. Ray of Mars (Visvatyarchas), develops physical and scientific tendencies of the native. The fifth ray is the ray of Jupiter (Sannaddha) and is associated with religious observance and devotion to God Brahmins. The sixth ray, the ray of Saturn (Sarvavasu) is associated with the implementation of ideas and plans. The seventh ray, the ray of Venus (Svaraj) determines level of harmony and comfort the native would have in his life. The first three rays i.e.; those of the sun, the Moon and Mercury are associated with the inner self of a person and remaining four are related to worldly affairs.
Planetary influences can also be seen in our day-to-day affairs. Cosmic rays coming on earth from planets are absorbed by our body and are converted into an electric energy. This energy is then radiated in the form or our thinking and actions. Different people radiate in the form of our thinking and actions, Different people radiate different levels of electric charges/vibrations depending upon the extent of cosmic rays absorbed by them. If electric vibrations of two individuals attract each other, they enjoy great harmony amongst each other while repulsive vibrations cause animosity between individuals. It is, therefore, quite clear that associations (affection) and separation between human beings are highly influenced by planets.
We are aware that different planets attribute cosmic rays of different colours. The Sun is Red, the Moon is Orange, Mars Yellow, Mercury Green, Jupiter Blue, Venus Indigo and Saturn is Violet. These colours are also present in the spectrum of Sunrays known as VIBGYOR. Rahu and Ketu emit Ultra-violet and Infrared colours respectively. Here it is important to note that these colours are of two types i.e.; visible and invisible. Ultra-violet and Infrared rays are invisible while the rest are visible. These colours are present either in Planets themselves or in the Gems found on Earth. These cosmic colours and forces run over solar system, which is basis of our life. These visible or invisible colours bring happiness and new aspects for human beings and at the same are the causes of diseases or the cosmic colours can cure disorders. The Sun having Red colour cures blindness, pain in bones. Orange controls bleeding and Mensuration, Indigo cures eczema and provides adjustment in confronting couples. Violet color cures cancer. Similarly, other cosmic colors prove highly beneficial in curing various types of diseases and disorders.
While discussing about colours, it is important to point out that in ‘Kalyuga’ mankind is suffering from more distress, diseases, sorrows and pains vis–vis what our ancestors experienced in ‘Satyuga’. This difference has occurred due to fading of cosmic colours with the passage of time and the increase in pollution. In Satyuga, these colours were deeper, fighter and more penetrating as compared to those present in Kalyuga. It is, therefore the reason that in Satyuga, people were happier, lived longer and satisfied and the land was a more fertile, and fruity tree.
In medical science, Ayurveda has a very important place. It consists of two words ‘Ayur’ (age) and’ Veda’ (knowledge) meaning the knowledge of age. Ayurveda (Bio-chemic) is based on 12 basic salts, which represent and bear characteristics of 12 signs. Deficiency of any of these salts is the cause of diseases and disorders. The 12 signs have different colours and control different parts of the human system. Aries has Red colours (intuition), Taurus Indigo (secretion), Gemini Yellow (resonance), Cancer Violet (feelings), Leo Orange (faith), Virgo Yellow (circulation), Libra Indigo (perception), Scorpio Red (attachment), Sagittarius Blue (introspection), Capricorn Green (absorption), Aquarius Green (memory) and Pisces Blue (emotion). A disease can, therefore, be according to the signs afflicted on the horoscope of a native.
Tatwas or elements constitute the Universe and hence are an integral part of our life. Astrologically the Sun and Mars represent Teja (Fire) or energy, the Moon and the Venus have Water or Jal (taste), Mercury Earth or Prithvi (smell), Jupiter Akash (sound) and Saturn has Air or Vayu (touch and sound). These Tatwas do work and influence every moment of human life and keep on changing in rotation in every 90 minutes. The effect of the tatwa on Prithvi is for 06 min., Jal for 12 mins. Teja for 18 mins, Vayu 24 mins is and Akash 30 mins, thus constituting a cycle of 90 minutes. The Tatwa representing the lord of the day begins the cycle after the Sunrise and then others follow it in rotation thereby affecting the native according to their characteristics. This process beginning at the sunrise (Prabhat Vela) continues till the sunrise of the next day. For example on a Thurday, whose lord of the day is Jupiter, the tatwa initiating the day would be Akash i.e.; Sound, followed by Prithvi i.e.; smell and so on. It is, therefore observed that on a Thursday, during the urge of music, bajan-kirtan etc. It is, therefore, clear that Planets influence human beings from tatwa point of view also remains in Pisces and Aries constituting the months of Chaitra and Vaisakha, is called Vasant Ritu. Venus is the lord of this period. Between April 21 and May22, when the Sun traverses through Taurus and Gemini, it is called Grishma Ritu whose lords are Mars and the Sun. Between June 22 and July 23, the Sun remains in Cancer and Leo gives Varsha Ritu, whose lord is the Moon. Similarly from August 23 to September 23, when the Sun travels through Virgo and Libra, Sharad Ritu appears having its lord as Mercury. From October 23 to November 22, when the Sun moves through Scorpio and Sagittarius, it is Hemant Ritu whose lord is Jupiter. Shishir Ritu appears when the Sun crosses the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius between December 22 and January 21. The lord of Shishir is Saturn.
The Sun travels approx. 1degree and the Moon 12 degree-15 degree in a day. A difference of 12 degrees between the Sun and the Moon constitutes 1 ’tithi’. 15 tithis on either side of the Sun (30 in total) constitute a month.24 hours constitute 1 day equal to 60 ‘ghattis’. 1ghatti is equal to minutes and 1 ‘pal’ is equal to 24 seconds.
Conclusion
The earth Planets and its inhabitants, etc are all influenced by the overall planetary aspects, besides Bhavas, Tattavas, Rays and Colour right from the conception of the Jatak and its entire life cycle and his entire life cycle. This forms the basis of Hindu Astrological Science and as Confirmed by Metrological and other earth science e.g. Geology, Geographical, Biochemistry, Botany etc. etc.
