Ashram: What is an Ashram?

What is an Ashram? An ashram is the eternal abode of the mind, body and soul, the abode of can also be rephrased as the Aashraye of the Aatma of a person. An Ashram is the most peace generating place for a human being.

The formation of an Ashram depends upon a lot of factors, primarily the area of the Ashram, which must suit the nature, an Ashram cannot be made in a tall building's apartment, aur amidst them, but an Ashram instead is ideally placed in such a location that the Ashram comes into compatibility with Nature. That is the real Ashram.

An Ashram must be spread out over a large area. An ashram also must have all the facilities for establishing a healthy and peaceful soul for a human being. The Ashrams today are purely commercialized, but an ideal Ashram is never into commercial purposes. The real Ashram works on donation, not fee! Because an Ashram is always free for everyone to come and participate in, and the donation is the real contribution on which an Ashram runs on.

Many people today are confused over the meaning of an Ashram, but I must say that it is very excusable as well, because of all the wrongdoings going on in the world, people are not sure about which is right and what is wrong, henceforth, the genuineness of Ashrams are also disputed.

Also, in some places the meaning of Ashram is given as a place where a religious community lives and their guru resides, but that is also wrong, an Ashram is the place where the mind, body and soul get the most peaceful, heavenly and wrong-free shelter.

An Ashram is the most ideal place where things can be taught to people, an Ashram therefore is the most suitable place for learning as we can assume, but, only when the Ashram follows the three golden rules -

  • The Ashram must be free from commercialization
  • The Ashram must be free from wrongdoings
  • The Ashram should only speak the truth and obey reality.

If you follow these three guidelines and study them in different Ashrams, you will know which Ashram is right and on the right way, and also that which Ashram is wrong and on the wrong way.

I believe that this is the criteria which Gandharv Ashram fully matches and it is right too because of these basic qualities a person can gain maximum from an Ashram, from what I have seen of Gandharv Ashram is that these people fully comply to what they say, and this article is no exception
